It must be Wine Week. We’re still recovering from Fashion Week, so this caught us by surprise (more stories on FW to come), but we once again hosted our friends and long-term clients Winebow this week at Skylight Soho, and we have a new client, Second Glass’ “Wine Riot” at Skylight One Hanson this weekend. It seems that the differences between these two clients are evident in the spaces they’ve chosen. Winebow strives to be the leading US importer and distributor of an international portfolio of premium wines, spirits and sake. This relatively straightforward, but wonderfully presented event attracts all the whose who of the wine buying world. Skylight Soho offers a clean, straightforward and massive backdrop upon which the wines, their regions, and the personalities of the purveyors can come alive. Winemaking is an old tradition, and Winebow honors these traditions to the tea. Master-planned by the always capable Francesca Abbracciamento, with the help of the super-pros at Olivier Cheng, hundred of producers were organized and ready to demonstrate their products to their eager, and expert clientele.

And then there is Wine Riot, the anti-wine tasting taking place at Skylight One Hanson this weekend.
Produced by The Second Glass, which seeks to create a more relaxed culture in wine tasting, specifically for the younger, more novice set, Wine Riot takes on Brooklyn–already edgy given the wine world–in its first NYC event.
Wine Riots are about teaching the unitiated to love learning about wine. Redefining the wine world for a more tech-ready crowd has resulted in The Second Glass, a free mobile app for iPhone and Andriod, which uses a location-enabled tasting room search to help drinkers seek out wines they think they’ll enjoy. Imbibers can then mark each taste using a ‘like it,’ ‘love it’ ranking system, upload information about favorites to Facebook and even chart which wines are trending as the most popular during the course of the event. Perhaps because Second Glass isn’t relying on the already-established bastions of the wine world to attend their event, but instead would like to shed some rose-colored light for novice appreciators, they have had to reach a little further to attract attendees, with an impressive PR campaign that included hits in the DailyCandy and the HuffPo.
We hope to see you at Skylight One Hanson this weekend, whether you spit or swallow.
