This afternoon Phil and Jamie of Silkstone Catering treated us to a delicious lunch at their restaurant, the Fat Radish. We had hardly stepped through the door before the chic yet rustic interior with its attentive details had us mesmerized. Jen immediately fell for the amazing stools that swivel out from along the concrete bar.

After a tour of their kitchen, as lovers of rooftops, we explored theirs, a magical secret spot with views of all downtown and the bridges. They sat us at their long wooden table for a sampling of the menu– scrumptious grilled cheese pressed with cherry fruit, mini BLTs served in bite size toasted bread baskets, their famous almond crumble over cubed beets (on a stick!), delightfully light sea bass with turnips in a miso glaze, and so much more.
After hearing only a bit about their approach to life, art, and food, we understood that Silkstone is defined by their innovative energy grounded in a farm to table approach with a passion for teaching us that tradition can be reversed! It’s possible to indulge in vegetables as the heart of your meal, with proteins as your sides.
The Silkstone dynamism surges into their event design as Phil and his team perfect recipes of food, decor, and staff to curate ethereal experiences. And at the core of all of this, their staff is their family, and they share everything, from weekly soccer practices and games to juice regimens.
We fell in love with the Silkstone philosophy.
And in his captivating story-telling voice, Phil explained that Silkstone is just that, the silk to the stone: silk, a symbol of the beauty of an event experience – seamless, effortless and graceful…but right behind the scenes of that elegance is the bustle of the sweat, intense hard work — the stone!
All in all, Jen and I left feeling like we’d had a bit of a magical afternoon — and we’ll be back very soon!
